Establishment of a tropical Research Unit at Singapore
[146 pages] The contents of file covering the period from 24 October 1946 to 5 October 1954 contain information regarding establishment of a Tropical Research Unit (TRC) in Singapore.
a) The discussions and negotiations were transmitted between the Secretary of State for the Colonies in London, Colonial Secretary of Singapore, Office of Flag Officer for Malayan Area, Director of Public Works, Commissioner of Lands and Principal of College of Medicine, etc.  
b) Office of Flag Officer for Malayan Area approached the Singapore government on its proposal to set up TRC within the grounds of the Medical College. Through discussions and negotiations, it was decided that the Japanese Building be used for the set-up of TRC instead and the TRC is allowed to occupy the premises free until they are required by the government.
c) Before the premises were vacated on 31 March 1953, there were a few discussions requesting for extension on the use of the premises and series of exchange regarding return of land and buildings occupied by TRC.
