The Ministry of Social Affairs transferred most of its functions to the Ministry of Community Development in 1985.
The Ministry of Social Affairs comprised the Social Welfare Department, Prisons Department, Fire Brigade, Legal Aid Bureau, Registry of Marriages, the Shariah Court and the Registry of Muslim Marriages, the Registry of Co-operative Societies, the Registry of Money-lenders and the Central Complaints Bureau.
