About Audiovisual Records

The Audio-Visual Archives (AVA) Department of the National Archives of Singapore (NAS) creates, collects, documents, preserves and disseminates audiovisual recordings of national and historical significance. These recordings serve as valuable research resources on Singapore.

Legislative Assembly and Parliament Audio Recordings

Audio recordings of Legislative Assembly (1956-1965) and its successor Parliament (post-1965)
Berita Singapura News Magazine Films

Films documenting the economic and social-cultural developments of Singapore in the 1960s. Produced by Ministry of Culture in four official languages and Chinese dialects.
Educational Television Programmes

Produced for schools by Curriculum Development Institute of Singapore from 1967 to 1983. Programmes cover language teaching, science, mathematics, literature, geography and civics.
Public Service Broadcast Programmes

Radio and television broadcasts of Mediacorp and its predecessors and programmes funded by Info-communications Media Development Authority. Cover 60 years of Singapore’s broadcasting history.

The Battle for Merger Radio Talks (1961)

A series of 12 talks by Prime Minister Lee Kuan Yew on the proposed merger between Singapore and Malaya. They were broadcast over Radio Singapore between 13 September and 9 October 1961.
