He remarks that, his happiness at being invited to open the library stems not from having the pleasure of opening a grand building, but from the culture that is stowed within it. He hopes that the new government of Singapore will uplift the people’s cultural values and nurture the spirit of national unity through the new library.

This clip was released by the Ministry of Culture in 1965 and was available in Malay, Cantonese, Tamil, with this one featured here in Hokkien. It introduces the Colombo Plan as a cooperative effort, whereby countries exchange technical knowledge. Singapore offered 314 training opportunities to professionals from participating countries, including Burma, Ceylon, Malaysia, Korea, Pakistan, and Philippines.
