of enlisting the assistance of the Government and that if no prospect of any assistance or encouragement is held out he will abandon his claims. It seems to me to be a matter that cannot be decided off-hand without a danger of mischief ensuing in one way or another and I doubt if it is possible for a safe decision to be come to without further enquiry.

Perak --- the present embroilment in Perak amongst her own subjects and the threatened prospects of war with Quedah, caused a great number of Malay refuges with their families to flee to Province Wellesley. Since Friday last, no less than 400 men, women and children have arrived.
