Translation of a letter from Victor Sprinckel sent to Steersman Willem Adams in Japan through Melchior Van Santvoort on 6 Feb 1605. Letter includes mention that Victor Sprinckel is delighted to hear of William Adams's success in obtaining  "For our Netherlands permission from  His Royal Majesty to trade in those quarters"and he hoped that the Dutch East India Company "will not be ungrateful to those who have served in this matter". Also includes mention that it has always been in their object to discover the same country (probaly Japan) but that the delay was caused by their Portuguese enemies who were powerful at sea.
