FCO 26/1844: BBC Far East Relay Station, Tebrau, Malaysia: transfer to Singapore
01/01/1977 - 31/12/1977
Correspondence relating to the renewal of the B.B.C.'s licence to operate the Far East Relay Station from Tebrau, Johore pending their removal to Singapore. Concerns expressed in the FCO that the Malaysians may use this as a bargaining weapon to get concessions from the U.K. on other issues such as allowing MAS to operate their new DC 10 into London. The Ministry of Communications in Kuala Lumpur is interested in the site for its own use. Copies of the documents renewing the licence for one year. Also included are quarterly reports giving an update on the construction of the new site in Singapore. The Far East relay station at Ponggol (replacing one at Kranji) was operating by December 1977.
