Papers dated August and September 1965 in which the British government expresses surprise and concern over the announcement of the secession of Singapore from the Federation. The documents include a letter from Lee Kuan Yew to the British P.M. announcing  the separation and the reasons behind the decision. He thanks Britain for its moral support and commits Singapore to work on terms of honour and friendship with Britain. Reactions to the announcement in Indonesia, Australia and New Zealand.
