The volume, dated Jan 1875, records correspondence between Sir Hercules Robinson and the Earl of Carnarvon, on matters related to Fiji shortly after its annexation by the British on Sep 30 1874. In particular, situation significant after the Chiefs had signed the instrument of cession, Sir H. Robinson then publicly declared Fiji to be 'from that time forth a Possession and Dependency of the British Crown', and 'the Fijian flag was then hauled down, and the Royal Standard hoisted in its stead'.
