History of the centre which was formed in Kota Tinggi in Southern Johore in 1948. The question of its future dominated the Five Power defence talks in Singapore in January and later meetings. Malaysian government would be embarrassed to have Singapore troops training there. Other sources of discontent between the two nations include purchase of defence equipment by Singapore and the problem of water supplies. Account of negotiations between the British and the Malaysians on access to the centre.
