This is a letter from John Crawfurd to J.A. Maxwell, Secretary of the Singapore Institution dated 27 October 1824 regarding a donation of 300 Spanish dollars made to account of native schools.
Transcription: "In reply to your letter of the 25th instant, I have the pleasure to state that the subject of the donation of three hundred Spanish Dollars made on account of native schools by Honourable the Lieutenant Governor of Fort Marlbro having already been referred to the Right Honourable the Governor-General in Council, from them to the Honourable the Court of Directors, it becomes out of my power at present and more especially under the existing circumstances of the settlement to take any further steps in the matter in question.” [Source: Wijeysingha, E.
