FCO 15/5323: Malaysia. Communism in Malaysia. Confidential
Overseas Record
1/1/1988 - 31/12/1988
Transcript from a Communist Party of Malaya commentary broadcast on the clandestine radio station 'Voice of Malayan Democracy' on 22 June 1988.  The CPM seems to be offering to give up the armed struggle in return for certain conditions including the release of a statement that they will no longer resort to violence and 'instead renounce its policy to physically destroy the revolutionary forces' . It is noted in an accompanying letter from the SE Asian section of the FCO that the CPM is now very small, without much Chinese support and is harried by the Thai and Malaysian forces. The surrender of the Communist Party of Malaysia last year probably affected morale. But unlikely that the Malaysian Government will make any response to the offer. They have a much harder line towards Communists than do the Thais.
