797.00_10-1861, no. 164: Chief Justice's decision in Lim Lian Geok case
18/10/1961
American Embassy Kuala Lumpur informed Department of State of Chief Justice's decision in Lim Lian Geok case pertaining to the deprivation of citizenship for disloyalty. The judgement of Chief Justice Dato Sir James Thomson dated 13 October discharged the prohibition made against the Minister of the Interior by High Court Justice Ong on 13 September 1961 and reverted the case back to the original status. Sir Thomson's decision in the Lim Lian Geok case indicated that Lim's speeches to incite communal strife is a form of disloyalty. The Chief Justice granted permission for a committee of enquiry to proceed with the case.
