Z6: Singapore: Letters from Governor Page 47 of 227
19 No. 47 To The Deputy Resident at Singapore Sir, I have to acknowledge the receipt of your letter of the the 19th July 1830 (No. 3) and to forward copy of minutes recorded by me on the 29th June, the perusal of which will inform you of my opinion as to the administration of justice by the Deputy Resident. Such being illegal, Indemnity would be required for consequences in case of their exerting any Judicial Power, and therefore the utmost caution would be required, but it seems to be the general opinion that Magistrates may legally continue to act, as well as the Petty Court, the Coroner and the Sheriff the latter up to the 29th September next. I have the honor to be Prince of Wales Island Sir [2nd?] August 1830 Your most obedt servant R. Fullerton Chief Commissioner for the affairs of Sing. PW Island & Malacca
