American Embassy Kuala Lumpur informed Department of State of the leadership crisis in the Malaysian Indian Congress (MIC), a component of the ruling Alliance Party. Tun T.V. Sambanthan, President of MIC was challenged by several candidates for the top MIC position. The only serious contender was MIC Vice President and Minister of Labour Tan Sri Manickavasagam.
