Correspondence, reports, minutes of meetings, newspaper comment etc. relating to the steps to be taken to reconstitute the Legislative Council in Singapore. Documents include a copy of the report of the committee appointed by the Governor to make recommendations for the reconstitution of the Legislative Council with comments and associated correspondence, exchange of letters between the Governor and the Colonial Office on the legal aspects of the reconstitution and on the composition of the Council, the Legislative Council Elections Bill, a report on the conduct of the elections and copies of message of congratulations from the Secretary of State and from the Governor General, Malaya to the Governor of Singapore on the inauguration of the Council on 1 April 1948.
