A-67: New Villages in Ipoh area
07/04/1972
American Embassy Kuala Lumpur informed Department of State that the New Villages in Ipoh are targets for the Malayan Communist Party (MCP). These villages were formed during the 1948-1960 Emergency by rounding up rural Chinese to deny communist terrorists from a source for supplies and recruits. Poverty of the villagers present a ripe target of opportunity for a more aggressive MCP effort.
