Azuma Shiro was a former Japanese Imperial officer who took part in the Nanjing Massacre, but had regretted his own actions when he fully grasped the atrocity of the whole situation. He repented by publishing his journal titled "My Nanking Platoon" in 1987, but faced lawsuit from his former colleagues in 1993, suing him for defamation and fabrication of the massacre.
