ALEXANDRA HOSPITAL, SINGAPORE
Alexandra Hospital at 378 Alexandra Road, Singapore. Constructed as the British Military Hospital in 1938, it was the site of the Alexandra Hospital massacre when Japanese forces occupied Singapore in 1942. The British reinstated it to its original role after the Japanese surrendered in 1945, and later handed it over to the Singapore government for a token sum of $1 when British troops withdrew from Singapore in 1971. It was renamed Alexandra Hospital in the same year and has served as a civilian hospital since.
