Captain William G Scott (3 May 1786 - 18 December 1861) was the Harbour Master Attendant and Post Master of Singapore in 1836 and was a first cousin of the famous novelist Sir Walter Scott. He owned Claymore plantation that stretched from present day Scotts Road (which was named after him) at the corner with Orchard Road up to where Tanglin Club is now. Captain Scott's home was an attap house named "Hurricane Cottage" and he was later known as "Hurricane Billy".
