A group photo of union officials from the Singapore Traction Company (STC) Employees' Union at their premises along 18 Race Course Road. These include employees comprising of clerical and technical departments, along with bus drivers and bus conductors. The STC was a British owned company and listed on the London Stock Exchange. The company encountered many labour-management disputes since the postwar years, culminating in the major strike of 1955-56 which paralyzed the entire public transport system of Singapore. Malayan Railway was roped in to offer alternative transport to people living in the rural areas and working in the city.
