Photo shows the Malaysia Proclamation ceremony held at the Merdeka Stadium, Kuala Lumpur at 8am. The Federation Prime Minister, Tunku Abdul Rahman was seen receiving the "Constitutional Instrument" from the Yang Di-Pertuan Agong, Almarhum Tuanku Syed Putra Al-Haj Ibni Almarhum Syed Hassan Jamalullail from the state of Perlis (standing under the umbrella). All the rulers from the various Malay states were present. The original date for the proclamation was set on 31 August 1963 but was later postponed to 16 September 1963 to allow the United Nations to determine the wishes of the inhabitants of North Borneo and Sarawak in joining Malaysia. The intervention from the United Nations was a result of Indonesia's protest towards the formation of Malaysia.
