Sir Thomas Stamford Bingley Raffles (1781-1826), colonial administrator in South East Asia and zoologist. In 1819, he signed a treaty with Sultan Hussein Shah and Temenggong Abdul Rahman that the East India Company could establish Singapore as a trading port.
