Portrait of Tan Kah Kee (1874-1961), an eminent philanthropist, educationist, entrepreneur, community leader and political activist who died at the age of 87 in Beijing, and accorded a national funeral by the Chinese government for his contribution to society. He founded five primary and secondary Chinese schools in Singapore, among them was Chinese High School. Mr Tan Kah Kee was a founding member of Singapore Chinese Chamber Commerce established in 1906.
