Singapore Naval Base - Rimau offices and accommodation. Column reinforcement East Wing. The photograph shows Rimau Offices under construction. Rimau Offices would be used as the Rimau Naval Base Police Asian Barracks from the late 1950s until 1971, when the force was disbanded with the withdrawal of British Forces from Singapore  (although families were permitted to live there until early 1972). The complex would be put to use as a branch of Woodbridge Hospital (now IMH), View Road Hospital from 1975 to 2001. The branch was used for the rehabilitative care of long term schizophrenic patients, many of whom were able to work on the premises or in the factories in the area in the day time. It was also used as a foreign workers dormitory on two occasions and is currently unoccupied. The area is slated for redevelopment as part of the Woodlands North development.
