COOPER WOULD WIN THE BIG PRIZE AHEAD OF KUALA LUMPUR-BASED COMMERCIAL PILOT JAN BUSSELL IN A BRABHAM BT15. THE ELFIN TOOK THE LEAD ON LAP 5 BUT BY LAP 10 HAD STARTED FACING SOME GEARBOX TROUBLE. ALBERT POON, ANOTHER FANCIED DRIVER, RETIRED BY LAP 10 WITH A DAMAGED WHEEL. RODNEY SEOW WAS RUNNING A STRONG THIRD AT THAT STAGE BUT WAS FORCED OUT AFTER TANGLING WITH CHONG BOON SENG AT DEVILS. BRAIN FOLEY'S SUPER MINI WAS NOT ABLE TO SUSTAIN THE 181-MILE POUNDING AND WAS OUT ON LAP 48 WITH A BLOWN CYLINDER HEAD GASKET. BUSSELL, WHO WOULD GO ON TO WIN THE MACAO GRAND PRIX THAT YEAR, TOOK SECOND AND SET FASTEST LAP OF 2 MINUTES 10.2 SECONDS IN THE PROCESS. THIRD WAS STEVE HOLLAND IN THE LOTUS 47, FOURTH WAS HENKIE OEI IN THE BRABHAM BT18 AND FIFTH WAS STEVE HARVEY, THE FIRST OF THE MINIS HOME.
