Admiral Sir Tom Philips died on 10 December 1941 when HMS Prince of Wales was sunk off Kuantan by Japanese air attack, and he and Captain John Leech chose to go down with the ship.  In 1942, Rear-Admiral Arthur Palliser went on to become deputy commander of Naval Forces,  American-British-Dutch-Australian Command (ABDACOM), and then Flag Officer and Fortress Commander at Trincomalee, and held other posts in the Royal Navy.  He retired in 1948 and died in 1956 in London.
