FAMILIES IN THEIR HOMES AT CHINATOWN DURING CURFEW HOURS
Residents of Singapore Improvement Trust (SIT) flats in Chinatown playing game of mahjong during curfew hours. Curfew was imposed for about ten days by the British colonial government at height of unrest caused by students and members of the Singapore Chinese Middle Schools Students' Union (SCMSSU) protesting against decision to dissolve the SCMSSU as a communist-front organisation and subsequent dismissal of teachers and students who had participated in subversive activities.
