A FLOATING DOCK IN SINGAPORE
The Singapore Floating Dock, later renamed the 'Admiralty IX Floating Dry Dock', was officially declared open by the then Governor of Singapore, Sir Hugh Charles Clifford at the Singapore Naval Base, Seletar on 14 August 1929.The dock was designed by Sir William Berry, KCB, head of the Royal Corps of Naval Constructors and the construction contract was awarded to M/s Swan, Hunter and Wigham Richardson Limited of Wallsend-on-Tyne, England in November 1926. It was completed in June 1928 and towed to Singapore by the Dutch firm of M/s Smit and Company, Rotterdam.
