31J PEPYS ROAD, COLONIAL MANSION BUILT AS RESIDENCE FOR THE INSPECTOR GENERAL OF OPIUM WHO SUPERVISED THE WORK AT THE OPIUM FACTORY AT THE FOOT OF BUKIT CHANDU. THE LAST RESIDENT WAS PHOTOGRAPHER RONNI PINSLER AND HIS FAMILY WHO LIVED IN THE HOUSE FOR 8 YEARS UNTIL IT WAS DEMOLISHED IN 1988 TO MAKE WAY FOR A CAR PARK. THE HOUSE WAS INVOLVED IN THE EPIC BATTLE OF BUKIT CHANDU IN 1942, AS VARIOUS ITEMS WERE FOUND FOR EXAMPLE A JAPANESE BAYONET IN THE NEARBY GROUNDS.
