STREET TRAFFIC ON NORTH BRIDGE ROAD, SINGAPORE
North Bridge Road was already a major road in the 1960s and all forms of transportation, from trishaws to Bus Number 1 of the Singapore Traction Company, shared the road. The Singapore Traction Company ran tramways in 1923 but ceased operation in 1971 in the face of competition from three other companies that eventually merged to become the Singapore Bus Services. Among the signage at the bustling shopping area, we can see Ocean Garments with one of its early retail outlets at 71 North Bridge Road. It is now better known simply as “OG” and has a chain of large department stores.
