PART OF A SERIES OF AERIAL PHOTOGRAPHS FROM EAST TO WEST SHOWING: YEW TEE, LIM CHU KANG, SUNGEI PERNAM
Aerial photo oriented with North on the right, shows the Yew Tee and Mandai Village area. The main road running across the lower third of the photo, on which some lorries are visible, is Woodlands Road. Above Woodlands Road, in the middle-left of the photo, is an area of circular features, which are the remains oil storage tanks. The road running around the bottom and left perimeter of the oil tank farm is Stagmont Ring Road. The track above the oil tanks is Lorong Kedaung. The linear feature below Stagmont Ring Road is the KTM / Malayan Railway line. Below the railway and the row of houses, running beside Woodlands Road in the left third of the photo, and parallel to the railway thereafter, is the Sungei Pang Sua, crossed by some foot bridges from the houses along it. The road that branches off downwards from Stagmont Ring Road near the middle of the oil tank farm and crosses the KTM line, the Pang Sua river, and the Woodlands Road, and splits into three near the bottom of the photo, is Jalan Gali Batu, which led to the granite quarry at Bukit Mandai II. Branching off downwards from Woodlands Road, to the left of Jalan Gali Batu and a small row of houses, is Lorong Kuini. Branching off downwards from 12th milestone Woodlands Road, which is to the right of Jalan Gali Batu and the crescent-shaped side road, is Jalan Kwok Min. In a 1945 map, the area west of the oil tanks (above them in this photo) is called Yew Tee village, and the area east of the Woodlands Road, around Jalan Gali Batu, is called Mandai Village. In later maps from the 1950's onwards, Mandai Village is renamed Yew Tee Village. Below Woodlands Road, at the right edge of the photo, is part of the Kwong Hou Sua Teochew Cemetery. The rural landscape of the area is characterised by vegetable market gardens and rubber plantations.
