Synopsis
Shared about Nanyang Khek Community Guild’s relationship/interaction with the business circle. The board of directors are mainly businessmen working in traditional Hakka industries. Shared the close relationship between Nanyang Khek Community Guild and the commercial circle, most leaders have a background in business and commerce. Description of commercial events participated in. Shared about prominent leaders in Nanyang Khek Community Guild, with a special focus on ex-Chairman Mr Ho Kiau Seng (何侨生). Interviewee shared Mr Ho Kiau Seng’s achievements and contributions to Nanyang Khek Community Guild, and shared his aspirations for Nanyang Khek Community Guild in the future. He shared that his plans of making good use of the piece of prime land that Nanyang Khek Community Guild has, citing his past experience of utilising Char Yong (Dabu) Association’s property. Shared about what he did in the pawnbroker business and the importance of moving together with the times. Shared the relationship between Char Yong (Dabu) Association and Char Yang (Dabu) Lee Chee Association (茶阳 (大埔) 励志社). Interviewee shared about the founding of the Char Yang (Dabu) Lee Chee Association and briefly talked about the medical hall (茶阳回春医社). Described the different roles of these two organisations and the current use of the medical hall. Brief description of the activities at Char Yang (Dabu) Lee Chee Association. Interviewee shared and compared the differences between holding leadership roles at different clan associations (Cha Yong Ho Clan Association, Char Yong (Dabu) Association, and Nanyang Khek Community Guild). He described his time at each of these associations and shared the advantages of being in Char Yong (Dabu) Association. He felt that he had the most enriching time at Char Yong (Dabu) Association. Interviewee mentioned the differences between Char Yong (Dabu) Association and Nanyang Khek Community Guild and how he wants to bring in change to revitalise the Nanyang Khek Community Guild if he continues in office. Interviewee shared the most important lesson learnt at Char Yong (Dabu) Association and how he applied it at Nanyang Khek Community Guild. He described the challenges he faced at Char Yong (Dabu) Association and how he resolved them. Interviewee shared the challenges he faced holding multiple leadership roles at different associations. He feels that not everyone wants to be a Chairman and shared his belief when he accepted the role of a Chairman.
