Special Project
About Project
This project was introduced to document the significant areas of Singapore’s history that were not already covered by the already established projects with a clear-cut theme.
Some of the topics discussed include the choice of the Vanda Miss Joaquim as the National Flower of Singapore, the development of the Girl Guides movement, the nature of work in departmental stores like Robinsons, the decline of the gasing as a competitive game and pastime, and the presence of couturier services in the past.
Interviewees include Mrs Phyllis Ganapathy, who worked at the Singapore Casket as an embalmer, Lee Soon Pah, who was a bus conductor for Singapore Traction Company, and John Christopher Young, who joined the British army and was posted to Singapore in 1968.
