Medical Services in Singapore
About Project
This project started in 1997 to document the development of medical services in Singapore since the 1930s. The collection covers broadly the experiences of medical pioneers and their contributions to the development of the various fields of medicine in Singapore, e.g. internal medicine, obstetrics and gynaecology, and paediatrics, and information on the healthcare and support services such as nursing, ambulance services and medical social work.
Some of the medical pioneers interviewed include orthopaedic surgeons Dr Balachandran and Dr V K Pillay; Professor of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, S S Ratnam; almoner Mrs Cecilia Naya; and artificial limb maker, S Rajaratnam.
