Punggol Oral History Project
About Project
In conjunction with the opening of Punggol Regional Library in April 2023, Oral History Centre (OHC) piloted an oral history campaign, inviting individuals, organisations, and communities to contribute their in-depth accounts of Punggol. The aim was to document first-hand, qualitative experiences of residents, workers, and businesses of Punggol from the post-World War II, agricultural communities, to the residents of Punggol 21, a model for new towns for Singapore in the 21st century.
The open call for interviewees to contribute their experiences started from 26 September 2023 to 15 November 2023. The publicity banners for this call were put up on various NLB publicity platforms, including the new, online crowdsourcing platform, “Singapore Memories: Documenting Our Stories Together”. OHC also collaborated with National Library’s Exhibitions department and Punggol Regional Library to reach out to communities in Punggol, from grassroot leaders, religious leaders, and restauranteurs to former residents, to participate. These Punggol stories were recorded by OHC’s volunteer oral history interviewers in December 2023.
