My Community: Cultural Mapping at Tanglin Halt

About Project

Cultural Mapping of People & Places at Tanglin Halt:

What is a place without its people? My Community maps out community networks developed within a particular site over a given time as a means to not only document the past and present but to inform the future.

More than 30 Housing Board blocks comprising 3,480 flats and approximately 200 market and hawker stalls, shops and eating houses in Tanglin Halt Road and Commonwealth Drive will be demolished as part of the government’s Selective En bloc Redevelopment Scheme. Some 7,000 residents have been impacted by the relocation exercise.

Volunteers from My Community conducted a cultural mapping exercise to document social networks which have developed within the affected neighbourhoods over time. They are also mapping out the complex relationships residents have built with their environment.

These oral histories were produced as part of My Community's efforts
