New Citizens
About Project
This project was started in 2010 to capture the motivations and experiences of different groups of immigrants who have chosen to make Singapore home since 1965, providing a contrast with the Oral History Centre's earlier interviews with migrants from the 19th and early 20th centuries. Interviewee range from working professionals, homemakers
to retirees and cover their personal background and upbringing in their home countries, their process of migration, and their social, cultural and economic experiences in Singapore. Policy makers and civil servants involved in national integration programmes were also interviewed to capture viewpoints from the top.
