Surveyed with Captain Samuel Congalton of the steamer, Diana.  Thomson’s hydrographic survey was the first detailed hydrographic survey to be conducted by a locally based surveyor. This is one of the most important and detailed early hydrographic maps of the Singapore Strait

This hydrographic chart shows soundings in Main Strait (Straits of Singapore), Salat Tambroh (Selat Johor), part of the Straits of Malacca that is off the south-western tip of Johor and southward from Pulo (Pulau) Pisang, Pulo Cocob, Singapore Harbour, Pulo Soodong (Pulau Sudong), Mangrove Island (Pulo Simakow or Pulau Semakau), Alligator Islands, Barn Island, Rabbit Island, Pulo Sikra, Pulo Ayer Limau, Salat Sinki (Selat Pandan) and Salat Samboolan (Selat Jurong), islands, submarine contours, estuaries, some hachures, roads in Singapore Town and radiating from it, tracks, settlements, vegetation, Singapore district boundaries of Bukit Timah, Toah Pyoh Lye, Toah Pyoh (Toa Payoh), Amokiah (Ang Mo Kio), Pyah Laebar (Paya Lebar), Changee (Changi), Tulloh Mati Ikan, Tamah Merah Ketchil (Tanah Merah Kechil), Siglap, Gaylang (Geylang), Kallang, Rochor, Tanglin, Claymore, Tanjong Pagar, Tulloh Blangan (Telok Blangah), part of Large Carimon (Karimun Besar), Singapore River, R Balestier (Sungei Whompoe), R Kallang (Sungei Kalang), S Sirangoon (Sungei Serangoon), S Kranjoe (Sungei Kranji), Pulo Cocob (Kukup), Pulo Oobin (Ubin), southern islands of Singapore including Pulo Sikra (Ayer Chawan), Pulo Ayer Limau (Merlimau), Pulo Bookum (Pulau Bukom) and Blakan Mati (Sentosa), Sultan Shoal, Raffles Lighthouse, Phillips Channels, Batam Bay, and others.
