Names of places, land and sea routes, coastlines, rivers, mountain ranges are labeled in different text in various colors, referencing the content table on the bottom left of map that states: Ptolemaic place names ethnonyms, land and sea routes are labeled in red. Ptolemaic coastlines and rivers are labeled in blue. Ptolemaic mountain ranges are labeled in brown. Toponyms and ethnonyms from other Greek and Latin sources are labeled in red and in brackets. Modern toponyms, mountain, rivers and coastlines not known to Ptolemy are labeled in black. Old toponyms are labeled in black and in brackets. Toponyms from medieval travellers are labeled in black, bold and in brackets. Sanskrit and Pali place names and ethnonyms from ancient Indu literature are labeled in violet. Arabic toponyms and sea routes are labeled in green. Ancient Chinese and Annamese toponyms and sea routes are labeled in yellow.
