PRO 639-55
Labour Ordinance, 1955
95 pgs –The Public Relations Office (PRO) assisted the Commissioner for Labour (CL) to publicise the Labour Ordinance, which was passed and assented to on 29 Nov 1955, to consolidate and amend the law relating to labour.

The PRO proposed that CL produce a pamphlet to describe the general purpose of the Ordinance.  If the CL were to provide the contents, the PRO would produce the pamphlet ie provide design, printing and translation services for the text. Taking up PRO’s offer, COL decided to produce the pamphlet, “To Explain The Labour Ordinance 1955”, in a Question and Answer format.  Altogether 6,000 English, 20,000 Chinese, 5,000 Jawi and 10,000 Tamil versions of the pamphlets were produced for distribution, primarily, to employers’ and employees’ unions, trade unions, and the chambers of commerce. A private company also fed back that it appreciated the efforts made in producing simple answers to difficult questions.  A copy of The Labour Ordinance 1956 (52 pages) is available in the file but not the pamphlet
