Socialist International & The PAP
101pp – File contains wire agencies' reports on the Dutch Labour Party’s (DLP) bid to expel the People’s Action Party (PAP) from membership of the Socialist International (SI) and the PAP’s response to the move. Documents include (a) PAP's Secretary-General Lee Kuan Yew’s letter to SI chairman exposing DLP’s move to expel the PAP, the motives behind it and the actual situation in Singapore (b) Radio and Television Singapore’s news reports on PM Lee’s letter and the subsequent resignation of PAP from Socialist International (c) Transcript of the press briefing by Foreign Minister S Rajaratnam and Culture Minister Jek Yuen Thong on PM’s letter (d) Transcript of BBC’s interview with journalist Alex Josey and (e) Reports by foreign news agencies (e.g. Reuter) on the episode.
