MC 30-75 Pt 1 Vol 2
National Day Parade, 1975
(408 pages) The Ministry of Defence (Mindef), as in previous years, continued to spearhead the organisation of National Day Parade (NDP) 1975. As 1975 marked the 10th anniversary of Singapore’s independence, the Parade for this year was decentralised to enable as many people as possible to participate in the event.  Key Ministers served as the GOH for the decentralised venues. Planning commenced in January ’75, on the programmes, contingents, cultural groups’ performances and fireworks display, reception at the Istana, exhibitions by schools and community centres, etc.   Sub-Committees were set up, with Ministry of Culture (MC) continuing to chair the Press Liaison Sub-Committee.  The committee had, besides the normal participating public sector representative, a member from each of the 13 NDP centres, ensuring proper coordination across the island’s celebrations. File contents focus mainly on preparations for the various centres’ NDP. There is also a booklet on the decentralised parades published by a Mindef brigade, with contents on the various aspects of the parade – the programmes, ie the timings, march-pasts, television coverage, reception to close the day, even alternative plans in the event of inclement weather. About half of file’s enclosures are on the NDPs’ post-mortem matters and meetings, with discussions on shortcomings and problems encountered at the different centres.
