The file contains mainly records relating to telefax (i.e. international counter-to-counter high-speed facsimile (fax) service) and fax (using subscribers' owned or rented fax machines) services including: Correspondence (Internal) - a memo dated 8 September 1979 from the Director (Corporate Planning) informing the General Manager (GM), TAS status of opening telefax service to other overseas destinations while telefax service to USA and Hong Kong had been established in December 1978 and September 1979 respectively; - a project paper on implementation of the promotion programme for telefax service submitted by Manager (Business Telecommunications Promotion) in June 1980 for Director (Business Telecommunications)'s approval; - a draft paper prepared by Corporate Planning Strategy Department in September 1980 on local and international data and fax services over public switched telephone network for Management's approval; Correspondence (External) - telex messages between Singapore and Taiwan relating to an agreement on accounting rates for the newly introduced fast fax service with effect from October 1979; - TAS type-approval certificates dated 3 October and 12 November 1979 granted to a dealer for local sale and use of two models of fax equipment. The dealer subsequently wrote a letter to TAS in May 1980 seeking clarification on conditions imposed on the type-approved equipment; - a letter dated 29 November 1980 from a foreign law firm who had an office in Singapore enquiring TAS policy on the use of high-speed fax machines by telephone subscribers to send documents via international direct dialling (IDD); - a press release dated 11 March 1981 issued by TAS on international fax service to Hong Kong, UK and USA on a subscriber-to-subscriber basis through IDD. In addition to the normal telephone line rental, different rates of connection charge per annum were imposed for low/ medium speed (analogue) and high speed (digital) fax equipment; Minutes of Meetings - minutes of meeting on telefax and fax services held in June 1980 to review the schemes of service for these services; - minutes of meeting on fax centre and fax terminal rental scheme held in August 1980; and - notes of meeting on international data and fax services held on 8 September 1980.
