13 pages – File relates to the unveiling of the Memorial Pagoda on 29 June 1954 at the Esplanade to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the death of war hero Lim Bo Seng. It contains two speeches delivered on that occasion paying tribute to Mr Lim’s sacrifice for the freedom of Malaya. In his speech, General Sir Charles Loewen, Commander-in-Chief of the Land Forces, described Mr Lim’s role in leading the fight against the Kempeitai by joining Force 136. Mr Lim Keng Lian, Chairman of the Major-General Lim Bo Seng Memorial Committee, lauded Mr Lim’s courage, loyalty, patriotism and devotion to the country. He noted that although Mr Lim was caught, imprisoned and tortured, he died in gaol without giving away any information to the enemy. Following the ceremony, the Memorial Committee wrote to the Public Relations Office to request a copy of the l6mm film taken of the event.
