The committee’s terms of reference were to recommend improvements to Chinese education in the interest of Chinese culture and the orderly progress towards self-government and ultimate independence. Public feedback was sought from organisations and individuals. File contents include (a) feedback from the Chinese Chamber of Commerce, the Malayan Christian Council and unsigned letters from individuals (b) press statements issued by the Ministry of Education (“All-Party Committee to accept all memoranda”) and the Secretary of State for Colonies Alan Lennox-Boyd (c) reports of Chinese newspapers eg Nanyang Siang Pao (“Tan Lark Sye, Ko Teck Kin, Lien Ying Chow present 5 public views on Chinese education”).
