Automatic Terminal Information Service
The file contains mainly the following records relating to:

- exchange of correspondence between the Department of Civil Aviation (DCA) and the Telecommunications Department pertaining to provision of Automatic Terminal Information Service (ATIS) i.e.  broadcast of information supplied by Meteorological Office and Air Traffic Control Centre for civil aviation;
- allocation/ registration of a very-high-frequency (VHF) radio frequency for ATIS broadcast for civil aviation;
- exchange of correspondence between DCA and International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) in August and October 1970 on selection of a suitable radio frequency for ATIS broadcast;
- invitation of tender for the supply of a variable message repeater for ATIS broadcast to DCA.  On 1 July 1971, Director (Telecoms) informed Director (Civil Aviation) in writing that the ATIS equipment was installed and ready for operational test; and
- a minute dated 24 July 1971 from Director (Telecoms) replying to DCA that the Telecommunications Department was unable to agree to provide personnel to man the proposed ATIS broadcast service and, as a matter of policy, the Department wished to confine its functions to provide technical telecommunications service to DCA without undertaking DCA operational functions.
