NATIONAL DAY CELEBRATIONS 1962. 1) RALLY + MARCH PAST 2) TRADE UNION RETURNS
Contents on the preparations for the 1962 National Day (ND) Rally and March Past, including media publicity management which were coordinated by Ministry of Culture (MC). Invitations were sent to schools (through Ministry of Education), and to over 110 trade unions to participate in the event. On MC’s request the Trades Union was asked to coordinate the participation of the other different unions eg Trade Union of Employees, S’pore Malay Teachers Union, etc. Based on logistical considerations and past experiences, the March Past by civilian groups, was discontinued as it was felt that prolonging the Rally added fatigue to the participants, particularly the schoolchildren. The invitation to political parties (eg PAP and UMNO) to participate in the ND Rally was issued by Mr Rahim Ishak (Political Secretary/Culture).
