Vesak Holiday
[24 pages] Contains correspondences originating from an appeal by the Singapore Buddhist Association to the government to make Vesak Day a public holiday in October 1947. However, in 1950, a government select committee did not recommend adding Vesak Day to the number of holidays, stating that there was "insufficient evidence" of public support. Also contains subsequent discussions on Vesak Day celebrations in 1951, 1955 and 1956, including disagreeements on when the full moon could be observed in the colony, which will determine the actual day of celebrations.
