The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), established in August 1970, is responsible for internal security and law and order. These functions are carried out through the Singapore Police Force, the Internal Security Department, the Singapore Civil Defence Force, the Prisons Department, the Central Narcotics Bureau and the Singapore Immigration and Registration.
The MHA's functions also include crime detection and prevention, the Immigration Review (Employment) and the Citizenship Advisory committees, the Special Constabulary, unincorporated societies, passports, immigration and citizenship matters, identity cards, and the Commercial and Industrial Secuurity Corporations (CISCO).
